The Tennessee legislature is currently considering legislation to require some taxpayer-funded projects to use Made in America products whenever possible.

This just makes sense! Tennessee's tax dollars should be reinvested back into American workers and businesses. Why spend our taxpayer money on foreign-made goods from places like China or Russia when we make these products here at home?

Message:

I believe that when Tennessee buys goods and services – with our tax dollars – they should be American-made whenever possible. I think the public’s money should remain in the state and national economy – and not be used to promote jobs overseas. It makes sense to support companies that invest in American operations and create good jobs for American workers. It makes NO sense to send our tax money overseas when domestic companies and workers are ready to do the work at a competitive price. Reinvesting tax dollars into the local and national economy promotes growth, expands the tax base, and – by creating more job opportunities for middle-class Americans – reduces the burden on social safety net programs. On a national level, the U.S government has found that domestic procurement preferences do not increase costs. In 2010 testimony to Congress, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported that the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act project materials costs were less than anticipated, contrary to claims that the Buy America requirements have the opposite effect. Please support HB 2397/SB 2383 and assure that Tennessee’s public spending supports American manufacturing.
