The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently found that companies making everything from mattresses to backpacks and even hockey pucks labeled their products as Made in USA, even though these goods were Made in China. But the companies faced no consequences for their actions.
This is outrageous!
When foreign manufacturers slap a Made in USA label on their goods, they are trying to game the system by taking advantage of the clout the label provides without doing any of the hard work. They shouldn’t get away with this.
Tell the FTC to impose tougher penalties on these companies that are unfairly deceiving American consumers and stand up for American manufacturers.
Message to the Federal Trade Commission:
I am disappointed that the FTC has chosen to give a free pass to companies that label their products as Made in USA, but really make their products in China or other foreign countries.
I place great value in a Made in USA label. It means jobs, quality, and strong communities. But when companies make their products overseas – in this case, backpacks, hockey pucks, and mattresses – and deceive consumers with a Made in USA label it completely undermines my trust. And it is unfair to those companies who play by the rules and truly make their products in America.
It is your job to not let these cheaters get away with this deception. This means imposing tougher rules and actual penalties on those who knowingly cheat the system – not a slap on the wrist.
